At Raising Stars Preschool®, we do not use the word “discipline.” Instead, we teach children that their actions have consequences. We support self-esteem, problem-solving, positive self-talk, and healthy relationships with peers and educators.
Positive Role Modeling:
Staff model appropriate behaviour and language, showing children how to interact and use materials respectfully.
Responding to Challenging Behaviour:
When challenges arise, staff may:
- Ignore minor behaviours if safe
- Redirect to another activity
- Encourage deep breathing to self-regulate
- Offer a sensory or quiet break
Breaks are un-timed, supervised, and not “time outs.”
Additional Support:
If challenges persist, families may be referred to local resources such as NONA or the Friendship Centre.
Last Resort:
In rare cases where behaviour poses a risk, families may be asked in writing to consider a more suitable centre. We aim to work with families to support each child’s growth and success.
